Ashesh Chakraborty, a Ph.D. student at Staab-Weijnitz lab “Immune barriers in lung health and disease” has been awarded a student travel grant of 1000 EUR by the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing (EPAA) to attend the European Society for Alternatives to Animal Testing (EUSAAT congress) at the University of Linz, Austria between 26-28 September 2022. The EPAA motivates young scientists and students to present their research in alternative approaches in a scientific event.
EUSAAT is the European 3R society that aims to promote the protection of experimental animals in scientific research by applying the 3R principle (Reduce, Refine, and Replace). At the EUSAAT congress, Ashesh had the opportunity to present a poster of his Ph.D. work entitled “A human in vitro model for airway epithelial injury and regeneration”, where he presented a novel strategy to induce an injury on the pseudostratified human airway epithelium and monitored subsequent regeneration in vitro, an alternative to the frequently used in vivo models for airway epithelial injury and regeneration.
