Grant Writing Challenge 2026: Winners

Congratulations to the winners of this year's Grant Writing Challenge!

  • Bianka Bohnacker (Diefenbacher Lab), Unmasking KEBAP - Mapping Driver-Specific Signalling to the Immunosuppressive Secretome in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
  • Magdalena Weiß (Schmid Lab), BREATH: Behaviour of Respiratory Aerosols Through Humidity

The Grant Writing Challenge is part of the Advanced Scientific Training Module and gives third-year doctoral candidates the opportunity to develop an original research idea. Participants prepared grant proposals on topics related to, but distinct from, their Ph.D. projects. Each proposal underwent peer review by three fellow doctoral researchers and was additionally evaluated by members of the Research School Faculty (Markus Diefenbacher, Aicha Jeridi, Theodore Kapellos, Markus Rehberg, Roxana Wasnick).

At the final Elevator Pitch Meeting, participants presented their proposed projects and competed for funding.

Each of the winners will receive 2000 Euros of funding for consumables for their projects, generously provided by the DZL, for whose continued support we are very grateful.

Congratulations to our winners and to all participants for their creativity and commitment!
